About
I was born and raised in Broken Hill where many talented artisan resided, my late mother “Peggy” being one of them. From a very young age I was extremely fortunate that my late mum was always teaching me different genres of craft and hobbies. Whether it be leather work, China painting, pottery, (she had her own kiln, I’d kill for it now) and my favourite - sewing.
Then as I reached my teenage years my creativity was put on the back burner, as there was too many other important things to do and craft wasn’t one of them (I’m sure you all know what I mean).
It was reignited again when I married my husband, and we began to raise our family. I started my own children’s label “Marion Maid” (corny I know, my label was a Friesian cow-even more cornier!) I designed and constructed gorgeous tartan and gingham dresses, overalls jodhpurs appliqué tops, shorts ect. Hm, I’m now starting to realise where my obsession for gingham started ( my girls will kill me for using these pics).
Then my next creative venture came when we had a sea change to the Gold Coast, and I opened my own Interiors showroom “Maz Interiors” (how original right?). It gave me the ultimate outlet to pursue my creative passions. After signing the lease I vividly remember standing in the empty premises thinking “What the F**% have I done!”. Fast forward 12 months and I had established a thriving business with regular clientele. I was also working with some of the Coasts top interior designers; sourcing and restoring furniture for their clients and even Art Union homes.
“Maz Interiors” was quite a unique business with a relaxed atmosphere that many new customers were taken aback by. They would be often greeted with a complimentary coffee in hand whilst I donned a paint splattered work shirt.
People on the coast were so used to the typical pushy selling tactic, and I was something completely the opposite “A breath of fresh air” many customers would comment. Customers became friends and would often call in for a chat a coffee and offer to run errands for me. The business grew organically, and I was able to employ extra staff and incorporate shopping tours to country towns and fossick for furniture treasures, and workshops, so clients could restore their finds. Was a truly magical time in my life and one I will always cherish.
However, as the saying goes “you can take a girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of a girl” this goes for my husband as well. We decided to return to the country after our previous employers coaxed us back to manage a large cotton and cropping property in Far West NSW. We have since been here for 15 years and we absolutely love the lifestyle and community.
Since moving here my eldest daughter has began her own creative pursuits (the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree) and Jazz (my daughter) established “Lizzy and Me” and I was able to help her with building her brand and business. This has been a wonderful experience for me, and I am truly blessed to still be able to help when she needs me. But being part of Jazz’s business ignited my passion to design and create beautiful things again, which led me to where you are today “Maz Lifestyle and Design”. It’s a platform for me to unleash my creativity and make beautiful things that I love and adore and hopefully you do too!
I have to give a big thank you to my husband Peter who has supported me in anything I’ve wanted to pursue, and my wonderful family who put up with all of their mothers crazy antics. But also a special mention has to go to all my beautiful daughters Georgia, Jasmine, and Caitlin, who have helped me in certain areas I required assistance, technical support, proofreading and branding, I couldn’t have done this without you!
I hope your still with me and haven’t nodded off, and you have enjoyed hearing my creative journey thus far. I’ve throughly enjoyed taking a trip down memory lane whilst writing this, and getting to share all my creative pursuits with you.
